Dear C4L Member,

Early tomorrow, the Senate Banking Committee is expected to vote on Ben Bernanke’s nomination to a second term as Federal Reserve Chairman.

Click here to get contact information for Senate Banking Committee members.

Chairman Bernanke has operated without any real accountability while printing trillions of dollars out of thin air and keeping interest rates artificially low, practices that continue the destruction of our dollar and will eventually plunge our economy into an even greater crisis.

But the real issue at stake during this confirmation process is transparency at the Fed.

No one – whether a “Person of the Year” or not – should be able to commit us to deals with foreign central banks or give taxpayer dollars to Wall Street while refusing to tell us who is receiving our money.

When you call the Senate Banking Committee members, urge them to join Senators Jim DeMint, David Vitter, Jim Bunning, and Bernie Sanders by calling for a hold on Bernanke’s confirmation until there is an up or down vote on Audit the Fed (S. 604).

If neither of your senators are on the Banking Committee, click here to contact Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and tell him it is long past time Audit the Fed receive a standalone vote on the Senate floor.

In Liberty,

John Tate

I came across a blog that was about a topic of endless controversy: American Health Care.  The long and short of it seems to be this:

  1. Folks who want socialized health care want equal health care options for everyone (struggle for a Utopian society).
  2. Folks who want privatized health care want the best health system possible for as many people as possible (short wait times, freedom to see whomever you want, etc).

To me, this boils down to the classic Churchill quote – “Show me a young Conservative and I’ll show you someone with no heart. Show me an old Liberal and I’ll show you someone with no brains.”  A Utopia (like perfection) is impossible.  People who want socialized medicine do have their heart in the right place but unfortunately their brains are not.

For me, the bottom line is this:  Only about 13% of Americans are without health care – TOPS.  Within that 13% there are people who CHOOSE not to have it, but could if they wanted to.  A friend of mine for example does not justify the $160 a month for health care, but does justify about that amount of money for their iPhone…

That means that 87% have health care.  Folks on the left think that socialized medicine is better because it will serve ‘everyone.’  They do however admit that it will be a step down from what the private sector is currently able to provide (wait times, treatments, types of medicine, etc).

In other words, the left is willing to (at least partially) destroy health care for 87% of Americans to attempt to get it for 13% of Americans – some of whom have decided not to have it in the first place (remember my old roommate).

Let’s cut it up a different way.  According to an article written by Steve Bierfeldt, after you subtract illegal aliens and people who could afford health care if they made responsible life choices, the amount of people who can’t get health care is down to 2.6%.  That means the left would want to destroy a health care system that works for 97.4% of legal Americans to try and help a 2.6% who don’t have it.

This argument boils down to responsibility.  It is irresponsible for a government to destry what works for the overwhelming majority of Americans.  The obvious answer is to find a way to help the 2.6%-13% of unisured citizens find private health care so that they can enjoy the benefits that 97.4%-87% who do have organized, working, and in fact luxurious health care.

The current proposals for reform are cloaked as big changes, but as it turns out, they are actually more of the same. They can be summed up in this way: turn more control over to the government and insurance companies while politicians and special interests jockey for credit and work behind the scenes to benefit — at the expense of individual Americans. – David McKalip, M.D.

In closing, let me put it like this.  Think of the Post Office… then FedEx Kinkos or UPS.  Now think of the DMV… then AAA.  Do you really want your health care run like the DMV or the Post office?  No thank you.

I’m sort of surprised the same sex marriage conversations are not evolving more quickly.  The long and short of it (to me) is this:

  1. We still (sort of) live in a free country.  Government should not be denying anyone rights; we all agree on that.
  2. Marriage is a sticky word – lots of religious folks want to protect it’s definition.

To me, the solution is so obvious I’m surprised we’re still talking about it.  I would love for someone to give me some real reasons with my solution explained in detail here (link) does not work for both sides.

In summary, here’s the solution: Privitise Marriage.  Get the government out of the conversation all together (State and Federal).  This would restore freedom to marriage.  This can be done a number of ways; here are two suggestions.

  • Re-write the current government marriage documents and exclude the word marriage.  Write them so that they can be used in any combination.
  • Remove the current marriage documents and don’t replace them with anything – get the government away from marriage.  We really should not need the government’s permission to get married.  I understand marriage is related to property but there are other, smarter ways around that.

IT WOULD WORK, RIGHT?

For the folks in favor of same sex marriage:

  • Equality is achieved.
  • Federal and State documents ether don’t exist, or are identical regardless if the union is same sex, or opposite sex.  The word “marriage” does not exist in government documents.
  • Religious organizations have the freedom (regardless of what state they are in) to perform same sex marriages, or not perform same sex marriages thus respecting their religious freedom.
  • Same sex couples can choose to get married at the places that choose to perform the ceremony.  It can be called anything in the world.  Party, marriage, celebration, union, lemon, whatever.

For the folks who do not support same sex marriage:

  • Marriage is protected, and can be defined by your specific religious organization.
  • Marriage is no longer a government word, and it’s name or definition will not be changed by the government.
  • Religious organizations exist that do not allow same sex marriages which are an option for membership.

BUT WHAT WOULD SCHOOLS TEACH?

Because marraige would no longer be a federal or state issue, marriage would not come up in the classroom at all.  The only thing they could really teach would be the legal documents that replace the old marriage documents (if they even need to exist) but I don’t think schools would waste valuable time teaching that.  What would they teach… where to fill in the names?  As there is no lesson on W-10’s or other government forms I’m sure the new union documents would be left out of the classroom.

OK folks, so let me have it.  How does this not resolve the issue…?

October 15, 2009

Dear Patriot:

Please take your time and read this email carefully.  Because if a bill quietly sneaking its way through Congress passes, an email like this could be the last non-government message to ever hit your inbox.  In fact, someday you may even find yourself unable to log in to your email in the first place! I know what you’re thinking: Maybe this is just another Internet hoax.

I wish it were.

But Barack Obama and Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) want to make this nightmare a reality.  That’s why Rockefeller recently introduced S. 773, “The Cybersecurity Act of 2009.”  Initial cosponsors include Senators Evan Bayh (D-IN), Bill Nelson (D-FL) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME).

You see, Barack Obama is seeking sweeping new powers to “shut down” all private internet in the event of a “cybersecurity emergency” — a vague term that the President can define at his discretion. And Rockefeller’s bill gives Barack Obama just what he wants.  That’s why this expansive new power grab should really be called “The Internet Takeover Bill.”

As you know, the Internet has developed into an independent sphere where 1st Amendment Rights can still be (fairly) freely exercised.  It’s also become an important outlet for liberty-minded speech, cutting around the Obama-worship and corporate censorship of the mainstream media.  And we’ve already seen the Obama Administration’s reaction to any online speech they deem “fishy.”

In July, the Administration called upon Americans to report their friends’ and neighbors’ emails to help Barack Obama silence the “disinformation” about the Obamacare bills in Congress.  Well, now Barack Obama wants to cut out the middle man.

If the Internet Takeover Bill passes, Barack Obama can silence his dissenters directly — by ordering a shutdown of all Americans’ access to the Internet.  That’s right.  Under this bill Barack Obama can order all non-government U.S. networks to shut down access to the Internet. But that’s not all.

Even outside of periods of White House-declared “emergency,” this bill mandates that private-sector networks only be managed by government-licensed “cybersecurity professionals.”  If you think dealing with your office IT department is bad now, just wait until they’re federally-licensed bureaucrats.  And God forbid you like to visit websites that spread “fishy disinformation” like freemarket healthcare solutions:  Passing socialized medicine could soon become enough of an “emergency” for Barack Obama to shut them down.

You know, for the public good.

Well, I know I like writing to you, and I hope you like hearing from me.  Or if not me, at least you probably like staying in touch with your family and friends, and having access to uncensored news and current events.  And that’s why I hope you’ll help Campaign for Liberty stop the Internet Takeover Bill by signing our Internet User’s Mandate to Congress.  Today, legislation like this — built on the same statist principles as the infamous Patriot Act — has to sneak through Congress quietly.

They know Americans are no longer willing to swallow this “for our own good” swill.  And it’s especially critical that Campaign for Liberty and other fellow R3volutionaries fight this power grab.  Can you imagine how easily those in power could fabricate an “emergency” on a big money bomb day for a strong liberty candidate threatening the establishment?  Or how about message boards vital to planning and freedom rallies and protests of socialized medicine?

With “right-wing extremists” freely and visibly exercising their 2nd Amendment rights at such events, no doubt the White House could declare an “emergency” and shut down all online planning.  I don’t want to see good politicians lose potential millions or demonstrations of liberty extinguished.  I hope you don’t either.  That’s why I hope you’ll sign your Internet User’s Mandate and make a donation right now to Campaign for Liberty to make sure that never happens.  We’re going to fight this bill hard, because it’s clear that the Internet is the next frontier for liberty politics, and Campaign for Liberty is right on the forefront.

So please click here to sign your Internet User’s Mandate to Congress in opposition to Barack Obama’s Internet Takeover and Shutdown Bill.

And in addition to signing your mandate, please make a generous contribution of $250, $100 or $50 so we can fight this Internet takeover.  We need to fight to make sure Barack Obama doesn’t disconnect your computer, shut down your favorite websites, or block your email. And frankly, with Audit the Fed, Cap and Tax and socialized healthcare debates, Campaign for Liberty is stretched pretty thin.  And unlike the government, we don’t print, borrow or take money by force (taxes).  Our only revenue comes from voluntary contributions from liberty activists like you.

We need you to stay educated and active.

We’ve put too much time into building our pro-liberty online networks, websites and email lists.  We simply cannot afford to give Barack Obama the power to dismantle all that at the drop of a hat.

So please, click here to sign your Internet User’s Mandate, and if you can, make a contribution of $250, $100 or $50 or whatever you want to Campaign for Liberty to stop this power grab…

…to defend our rights…

…and most importantly, to protect this movement.

I trust you’ll join this fight to protect all the progress we’ve made.

In Liberty,

John Tate
President

P.S. The Internet Takeover Bill (S. 773) is threatening to “unplug” private networks from the Internet on the order of the President and dismantle the online army we’ve worked so hard to build.

Why can’t we just be free?

September 5, 2009

The original concept of this post was going to be to do an “about Bush” section and an “about Obama” section and relating them to ‘we the people.’ I was going to write about Bush’s terrible patriot act and Obama’s failure to fix it (which was predictable). I was going to write about Bush’s bailouts and how Obama (predictably) did the same thing. I was going to write about how neither party is truly different from the other anymore – only in trivial issues. I was going to write about how both are bought and paid for and employed by the same wealthy parties and that nobody in our Government has been working for the American citizens since President John F. Kennedy.

I changed my mind however because that post was going to turn out to be incredibly long. I realized that if people truly want to know who owns their Government, the information is easily accessible. Just follow the money, and research the Federal Reserve Bank. It does not take even remote intelligence to realize that we are all being fleeced.

At first, I wanted to write about the Revolution and remind everyone why we broke free and created America. The thought of freedom – true freedom to do whatever it is that we want resonates in me very strongly. A quote I think of frequently is this “if we are only free to make good decisions, are we truly free?” I also think – if we are only free to spend two thirds of our paycheck, are we truly free? If our money is spent against our will for golden para-shoots for finance oligarchs, given as bribes or earmarks… are we truly free? If we can’t choose our schools or doctors are we truly free? If we are surveyed against our will as the Patriot Act allows, or if we can be secretly put on lists for our party affiliation are we truly free? This list could go on and on.

As you can see, writing about the fallacy of Bush, Obama, and Government could go on forever and be *almost as long, complicated, and confusing as our taxation code. Instead I just thought I’d post what I believe in, and invite readers to educate me – why are my beliefs impossible?

I believe in freedom – I believe individuals should be able to make whatever choices they want as long as those choices do not hurt another person legitimately.

I believe two consenting people should be free to marry regardless of what others think.
I don’t believe they require permission form anyone, especially the Government.
I believe non violent religion should be free to practice in any way they wish. I believe they can endorse or condemn whatever lifestyles they want no matter how others see it.

I believe people should be free to spend their money how they wish – heaven forbid if they don’t give any to charity. I pray to God we all would choose to – I know I would and do.
I believe (on average) one third of your paycheck required to the Government is far, far too much. However, if those who enjoy taxation wish to give 50% or 75% to the Government they should feel free to do so.
I believe only sales tax should be required. Income tax has only been recognized by the Supreme Court since 1913 (coincidentally the same year the Federal Reserve was created) which means that in our prime we operated without income tax and should still be able to do so.
I do not believe that people will realize that Government has destroyed everything it has touched (education, post office, medicare/cade, aamtrack, social security, the list goes on forever).
.
I believe in my fellow men and women and do not think we need to be micro-managed.
I believe these two parties are tearing us apart. Part of me believes that this is by design. If we fight with one another, we won’t fight with ‘them.’
I believe elections work like a Don King fight where both parties are puppets of the same wealthy influences.
I believe if we all truly understood freedom – live and let live – we would all see how both parties oppose us in our pursuit of the American Dream. By definition “Government” is to Govern – unfortunately it is the opposite of living freely.

I believe that the country we created has turned into the country we tried to escape from and unless we ‘wake up’ it will continue down that path. Quick example: one of the primary reasons we created America was to escape the manipulative central bank of England which was committing economic crimes against the people, much like our Federal Reserve Bank does today.

Sadly, I don’t believe that anyone will read this or anything like this.
Even more depressing; I don’t believe anyone will even think these thoughts of true freedom.
I think people will watch football and American Idol and entertain themselves to death while their civil liberties and their freedom is stripped away from under them.

It’s been said that people do not truly want freedom, they just want to be well fed and entertained. I do not believe this is true, but I believe we are too entertained to know that what we do truly desire is freedom.

To anyone that made it to the end, thanks for letting me vent. If anyone can help me understand why the freedom to choose our own lives and paths won’t work please explain it to me.
